The community transmission of the Omicron form began three weeks ago in Mumbai, resulting in a spike in daily covid-19 cases of over 20,000 corona infections. Furthermore, it is highly contagious, which explains why Omicron is now the most common covid. Meanwhile, it's unclear whether the subtype of Omicron is responsible for community transmission.

Dr. Shashank Joshi, a member of the state covid-19 task group, agreed with the INSACOG assessment that the Omicron version of the coronavirus is in the community transmission stage in India and has become prevalent in numerous metros where new cases are increasing exponentially. Dr. Joshi stated that there is no doubt that Omicron has spread throughout the population, but because it is sporadic and extremely contagious, they have decided to focus on symptomatic and slightly symptomatic people.

Furthermore, there are other varieties of Omicron, such as BA.1, BA.2, and BA.3, and it's unclear which one is the primary source of community transmission. "Because Omicron is so contagious, we've shifted our focus to four parameters: deaths, hospitalizations, oxygen, and ventilators." We must concentrate on symptomatic therapy of patients and identify those who are at risk of developing severe disease and dying. Furthermore, Omicron has been found in 75% of daily cases so far, indicating that it has spread throughout the community," he stated.

Furthermore, the Omicron variation was found in 85 percent of the samples supplied to the Kasturba Hospital laboratory for genome sequencing, disclosing the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's eight entire genomic surveillance reports on Saturday.
The civic body collected 375 samples for the eight batches of its genomic surveillance series, 321 of which were found to have the Omicron variant, while the rest were found to have Delta and its subtypes.
