On Thursday, Koparkhairane Police detained a 49-year-old man for allegedly posting defamatory comments on Twitter about Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackery. The post had also been shared on a social media network by the accused. Sandeep Mhatre, a BJP activist and the spouse of former city councillor Sangeeta Mhatre, was arrested. Mhatre allegedly posted the defamatory text on Thursday morning and then shared it on a WhatsApp group, according to authorities.

The post, however, did not sit well with Shiv Sena workers, and Vijay Mane, the Shiv Sena's Sahar Pramukh, went to Koparkhairane police and filed an FIR against Mhatre. While speaking with the media Mhatre was arrested on Thursday night for inciting hatred between two groups, according to Suresh Mendge, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch). He went on to say that after publishing derogatory content on his Twitter account, Mhatre shared it with a WhatsApp group.

Mahtre was arrested under section 153 A for inciting hatred between groups and appeared in court on Friday, where he was placed in police custody until January 8. Ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections 2022, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) doesn’t leave any stone unturned to grab the ruling in the state, to gain power in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) which is the country’s richest civic body in the city of Mumbai. The competition seems to get tougher and tougher for both sides and is to be seen who makes its entry into the civic body with its power.
