More than a period of 40 days has been completed but no action has been taken against Police constable Rupesh Kohli who was charged with a rape case. The police are unable to arrest the accused as of now. In the statement that the survivor had mentioned, she stated that some time ago she met Kohli on social media and they interacted and became friends.
The Police constable Rupesh Kohli who is 23, then formed a physical relationship with the girl and promised that he would marry her anyway, and later when she conceived, he gave her some medicines and terminated her pregnancy. When after this she asked him to carry further the relation, he refused to do so.
The police have registered the case under sections 376,313,323 and 417 of the Indian Penal Code and also suspended former police constable Rupesh Kohli soon after the case was registered. “He being a policeman knows very well what are the steps and procedures we follow to arrest a criminal, so this is how he still can hide from us. As soon as the case was not even registered, he went into hiding and has not given us any clue, we will with our team search for his whereabouts at different places all over the state of Maharashtra,” stated the Assistant Commissioner of police Bhagawat Sonawane.
Commenting on this move, a social activist stated that in cases like this what we notice is that the police officers try to delay the arrest and in the meanwhile they also try to persuade the person who has filed the complaint to take the complaint back outside the court, and if they agree the accused is not arrested and the case settles down. Slamming the Mumbai Police, the activist stated that we hope that this is not the case here.
