Maharashtra Government announced Rs. 11,500 crore flood relief package
11,500 crore relief package has been approved by the Maharashtra Cabinet on Tuesday for districts affected by natural calamities like floods and landslides. The plan is to spend the fund on short and long-term measures. All the costs where the relief can be provided immediately will be provided in the package for the troubled people, farmers, and traders. The package will also be used for the rehabilitation and building infrastructure that can assist the calamities which took the lives of more than 200 people all over the state last month.

For the loss of 30,000 hectares of agricultural land and the death of their cattle the farmers would receive compensation. For the damages to the shops of the traders, Rs 50,000 each will be given.  “The beneficiaries will be given the money either through cheque or by direct bank transfer and cash will not be given,” stated,” Wadettiwar after the Cabinet meeting taken by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

The districts worst affected by the flood were Satara, Sangli, and Kolhapur in Western Maharashtra and Raigad and Ratnagiri in Konkan. Other regions in the state were affected, too. This package by the State Government will help all these areas. The Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has asked to construct a retaining wall for flood control in Mahad and Chiplun, and desilting of Vashishti, Gandhari, and Savitri rivers within three years. The remaining work on Kalu and Shai irrigation projects must also be finished in three years, he directed. With this, the former Chief Minister and opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis alleged on this package that this only gives only R1,500 crores in direct and urgent assistance to the affected people.
