The Samajwadi Party (SP), roughly translated as the "Socialist Party", is a regional political party approved by the Election Commission of India. Its primary base is in Uttar Pradesh, though it has a presence in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, and Uttarakhand. The party was founded on 4 October 1992 by Mulayam Singh Yadav after breaking away from the Janata Dal, with a core ideology of social justice, secularism, and pro-farmer policies. The party primarily caters to the Other Backward Classes (OBCs), minorities, and rural communities. It has been a dominant political force in Uttar Pradesh for decades.

Akhilesh Yadav, National President & Former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh: Akhilesh Yadav is an Indian politician and currently holds the position of National President of the Samajwadi Party. Akhilesh Yadav was also elected to the 18th Lok Sabha from Kannauj in the 2024 Indian general election. He now leads the Samajwadi Party in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament.
Ram Gopal Yadav, National General Secretary & Rajya Sabha MP: Ram Gopal Yadav currently serves as the National General Secretary of the Samajwadi Party and is a Member of Parliament (MP) in the Rajya Sabha. He began his career as the Chairman of the Etawah Zila Parishad in 1989. He was appointed Chairperson of the Committee on Health and Family Welfare in September 2024.
