Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has stated that Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju was removed from his position by the Central Government due to the judiciary's discontent. Raut described this development as a triumph for the judiciary. According to him, the Narendra Modi government lacks individuals who can effectively handle the law portfolio without external influence.
Rijiju, during his tenure as the Law Minister, expressed strong criticism towards the collegium system for appointing Supreme Court and high court judges, considering it to be inconsistent with the principles of the Constitution. Furthermore, his recent comments regarding certain retired judges being associated with an anti-India group generated significant backlash and sparked intense reactions.
Against this backdrop, Raut accused Rijiju of attempting to interfere in the functioning of the judiciary and even making derogatory remarks about Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud and several other esteemed individuals within the judiciary.
According to the Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson, the Minister faced opposition from the entire judicial system, leading the government to acknowledge the situation. The spokesperson asserted that this outcome signifies a triumph for the judicial system.
Clyde Crasto, the NCP spokesperson, asserted that Rijiju was attempting to position himself above the law and neglecting his responsibilities. He further emphasized that this incident should serve as an example for all Union ministers who engage in similar actions.
Crasto emphasized the importance of the Central Government establishing the same standard for ministers who underperform, particularly those who fail to address issues concerning women and children. He stated that these ministers should be held accountable in a similar manner.
