A group of former local corporators in the Sewri region have expressed their dissatisfaction with the
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) slow progress in the desilting of nullahs and road rehabilitation work, particularly with the monsoon season just a month away. They met with the municipal leaders of the F South ward to urge the completion of any unfinished work before the monsoon arrives.
The BMC began its nullah cleaning operations on March 15 and assigned a single contractor for a zone covering Sion to Worli. However, according to ex-corporator Sachin Padwal, there are still some locations in the Sewri region where pre-monsoon work has not yet started. He also reported that the BMC has not completed 50% of the construction on the Thokarsi Jeevraj road from Sewri Naka to Kala Chowkie, and there are still other unfinished road projects that may cause inconvenience for residents during the monsoon season.
Padwal, along with other former council members, met with Assistant Municipal Commissioner for the
F South ward Mahesh Patil and MLA Ajay Choudhary, both from the
Shiv Sena-Thackeray faction, to address their concerns. The F South ward assured them that pre-monsoon civic work is in progress and that they will ensure its timely completion. Senior officials have also promised to finish the work within the next 15 to 20 days after being informed of the issue. Assistant Commissioner Mahesh Patil was not available for comment on the matter.
