Congress hits out at ill-prepared BMC ahead of monsoons, says city unprepared

Congress has hit out at Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation for not completing road repair works countering BMC’s claims that they have completed 85 per cent of the work already. The Congress also added that the municipal body is lacking on its desilting deadlines as well.

Congress termed this desilting as a scam of contractors along with Shiv Sena-BJP.

This time also BMC is behind the deadline of monsoon preparedness work.

“I visited few spots in city and suburban area and we found that desilting work has not been done properly. Though BMC claims that they done 85 per cent work but this time also Mumbaikars have to suffer again and for this Shiv Sena – BJP and BMC officials should be held responsible,” said Congress leader Ravi Raja.

But the BMC is confident that this time round the people of Mumbai will not have to suffer during Monsoon as 99 per cent desilting work in city and 75.84 per cent in eastern suburbs has been completed.

“We have taken adequate majors in our pre-monsoon preparedness drive so that Mumbaikars won’t have to face hard time during monsoon. To tackle the issue of potholes this time we have got cold-mix material from Israel and Austria. Which will fill-up the potholes instantly,” said Sanjay Deshmukh Assistant Muncipal Commissioner, BMC.

Ruling Shiv Sena is also supporting BMC officials over monsoon preparedness.

“We are keeping tab on these works. At some locations the pace is slow but we are sure that it will be completed on time”, added Yashwant Jadhav, Shiv Sena leader in BMC.

This year BMC has spent over Rs 70 lakh on new materials acquired from Austria and Isreal that will be used to fill potholes.
