Less than three months after BMC gave its 227 corporators Android phones, a lack of communication within the corporation resulted in some phones going dead and outgoing services of others being disconnected.
While a budget provision had been made by the protocol department in March, the handsets and sim cards were distributed later by the municipal secretary’s office. However, with no clear instructions as to which department would actually meet the monthly expenses, the bills remained unpaid for three months and the cell phone operator disconnected the service.
MNS corporator from Mahim Virendra Tandel said that his outgoing service were disconnected Wednesday and BMC should have been careful about making payments in time. Departmental issues should be solved beforehand.His phone connection was restored around 8 pm Thursday.
