Mumbai Municipal corporators sought clarity from the BMC administration over the draft Development Plan (DP) 2034. A proposal seeking a six month extension for the revision of the draft was placed before the corporators in the standing committee meeting on Wednesday.
Ajoy Mehta, the BMC commissioner is known to have assured the leaders of political party in the BMC that a raw draft of DP 2034 will be informally brought before them before it will be published.
BMC published the draft DP 2034 in February this year, which was criticised by many. The BMC was asked to revise and rework upon it by the state government in April 2015 and bring out a DP within four months. However, the BMC has sought an extension of 6 months for revising the plan.
It is unlikely that the BMC will bring out a revised DP 2034 in the next six months as well said Sandeep Deshpande, the leader of MNS party in the BMC.
Micro level issues needs to be looked into by the BMC while revising the plan said Rais Shaikh, the leader of the Samajwadi party in the BMC.
Congress corporator Asif Zakaria said that it’s a possibility that the BMC will not be able to revise the plan within the time frame and will seek another extension once the six months extension is over.
