BJP candidate Jagruti Patil won the by-election in Ward no 116 in Bhandup. The by-poll in Ward no 116 of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been necessitated due to the death of Congress corporator Pramila Patil, who passed away due to a heart attack on April 25. Polling for the Bhandup ward no 116 by-election was held on Wednesday. While the Congress was fighting to retain the seat, the Shiv Sena and BJP were trying to dethroning it.
The Bhandup by-poll assumed significance for both the Shiv Sena and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as both are leaving no stone unturned to become the single largest party in the BMC. As per early trends, the BJP is leading in Ward no 116 in Bhandup. For Bhandup by-poll, Shiv Sena fielded Minakshi Patil, wife of Bhandup MLA Ashok Patil, while the BJP nominated Jagruti Patil, who is a daughter-in-law of deceased Pramila Patil as its candidate.
There were five more candidates contesting the by-poll – Pramila Singh (Congress), Baby Sawant (Bahujan Samaj Party), Smruti Jadhav (Janata Dal-Secular), Deepika Jadhav (Sambhaji Brigade) and Vaishali Gajdhane (Bahujan Mukta Party).
